An army of five. Like never seen before. Strong, strategic, immortal and united. They don’t have the answers but they do have a purpose. The Old Guard, released on July 10, this year on Netflix emerged to become a big hit. A superhero movie, not with the typical storyline or format. It is more realistic in terms of other aspects other than mortality.
Will there be a sequel of The Old Guard? What are the things you may have missed? Why should you include it in your watchlist? Let’s dive into these questions and get the answers.
The Old Guard has an aptly fitting and perfectly balanced cast which includes,
- Charlize Theron as Andy
- Kiki Layne as Nile Freeman
- Matthias Schoenaerts as Sebastian Le Livre
- Marwan Kenzari as Joe
- Luca Marinelli as Nicky
Why should you watch it?
Based on the comic book of the same name, The Old Guard portrays the story of a group of mercenaries who are immortal. The story revolves around Charlize Theron’s character, Andy. She is the one who has seen deaths from centuries. Deaths of her loved ones. Moreover, the death of her immortal partner brings us to the conclusion that their immortality is more quasi than absolute. The army of five, that is, Andy, Nile, Sebastian, Joe and Nicky represent the defensive side of the plot. They are good or bad, it completely depends upon one’s perspective.
Being immortal is not ordinary and the world will go crazy searching for such beings once it goes public. Hiding from the world in this era is not that easy. People such as billionaires and scientists want to decode their genetic structure and hence, they want to exploit them.
As seen from the trailer the plot offers more of action than drama. Highly praised for the action scenes especially the female action scenes, this Netflix movie has something uncommon. Apart from the physical suffering which is however covered under the sheet of immortality, the emotional and mental suffering is something that has been highlighted.
While Andy plays cold blooded which is the result of human losses she has seen since centuries, Nile connects the dots with the emotional side.
Will there be a Sequel?
As said by Charlize Theron, the team must take a “break” from work. Although they want to work on the sequel, no word from the makers has been recorded. If we go by the instincts, the story does pull on for a cliff-hanger. Even if we go by the statistics, the numbers on Netflix are very positive. We may expect a second part to The Old Guard.
