A Discovery of Witches Season 2 and 3 are soon to follow after the show’s first chapter, based on Deborah Harkness’s All Souls literary trilogy, became Sky One’s most popular drama of 2018. After successfully pulling in an astounding viewership of over two million the show was renewed with the next two installments following the second and the third books, Shadow of Night and The Book of Life.
The duo of Sarah Dollard and Susie Conklin were tasked with writing A Discovery of Witches Season 2, and Conklin has also been acting as executive producer alongside Bad Wolf production company co-founders Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter, as well as Lachlan MacKinnon and Harkness herself.

A Discovery of Witches Season 2: When is it gonna release?
According to Sky, the series will return in 2020, but there’s no official word on exactly when we can expect it. Palmer had revealed that filming was starting off in July, 2019 with the rest of the cast starting earlier because she was having a baby. She professed that her pregnancy would not come in the way of the production of season 2.
By the end of 2019 the show’s UK production was completed and Italy was next in line. one week later on January 7,2020 it was announced that only two weeks of shooting remained. Fans were overjoyed by this news.
It is not clear if the current tumultuous situation will affect the production of the show. But Steven Cree, a recent addition to the cast, mentioned in an article that the release of the show would not be interrupted. Fingers crossed!
A Discovery of Witches Season 2 cast: Who’s returning and new faces to expect?
The show’s protagonists Teresa Palmer (as Diana Bishop) and Matthew Goode (as Matthew Clairmont) are some of the most obvious ones to return. They will be joined by Alex Kingston (as Sarah Bishop), Valerie Pettiford (as Emily Mather), Daniel Ezra (as Nathaniel Wilson), and Aisling Loftus (as Sophie Norman).
These are not the only familiar faces who will be returning. We will get to see Aiysha Hart (as Miriam Shephard), Edward Bluemel (as Marcus Whitmore), Owen Teale (as Peter Knox) and other important characters from the previous season will join the crew of A Discovery of Witches Season 2.
Among the new faces we have Tom Hughes who will also join the cast of A Discovery of Witches Season 2. The show’s official Twitter account has also announced that Michael Jibson, who plays Tecwen Whittock in ITV’s Quiz, has joined the cast in season two as Emperor Rudolf II. Other new faces include the aforementioned Steven Cree (as Gallowglass De Clermont) and James Purefoy (as Philippe De Clermont).

The second book of the All Souls Trilogy plunges Matthew and Diana into Elizabethan London, a world of subterfuge and spies, and a coterie of Matthew’s old friends, the mysterious School of Night.
The mission is to find a witch to tutor Diana and to locate traces of Ashmole 782, but as the past of Matthew keeps reminding them they embark on a very different journey, one that will take them into heart of the 1,500 year old vampire’s shadowed history and secrets. For Matthew Clairmont, time travel is a really complicated thing; so is Diana’s search for the key to understand her legacy.
Sky has also offered its viewers a taste of what is going to happen. Diana and Matthew are hiding in the fascinating and treacherous world of Elizabethan London. They are looking for a witch teacher for Diana so that she can control her powers and find the elusive Book of Life.
Back at home, Diana’s beloved aunts, Em and Sarah, must take shelter with the notorious witch-hunter Ysabeau de Clermont. Meanwhile, in Oxford, Miriam and Marcus take on Matthew’s mantle to protect daemons Nathaniel and Sophie, whose pregnancy is advancing. And Gerbert, Satu, Knox and Domenico are determined to find out every clue they can about how Diana and Matthew disappeared, and the secrets their allies are hiding from them.
Basically there is a lot of hunting and searching waiting to be experienced.
